In the movie GATTACA, Vincent was born with a 99% chance of heart disease
and is not allowed to become an astronaut due to this defect in his DNA code.
With current advancements in genetic testing, there is the potential to
discriminate against those with “bad genes.” It is quite possible that in the future
individuals considered “high-risk” for certain diseases may be denied the
opportunity to do or be certain things if they are asked to take a DNA test.
Do you agree or disagree with GATTACA’s policy of only looking at your DNA as your job “interview”? Explain your thinking. Think about it from BOTH the company’s side and Vincent’s BEFORE deciding (avoid bias!)
